A New Game Deal is On For 7 Million UK Pound Casino

A 7 Million UK Pound casino will rise on the site of the former Fountainbridge nightclub. It will now push through after its operator had agreed to close one of its casino outlet in the capital.

The Stanley Circus Casino plan was not accepted last March by the city's licensing board when Phil Attridge, the licensing convener said that there was ample provision for the casino players in Edinburgh.

However, a fresh application was submitted by the company and they agreed to surrender the license for its one of the sites in Edinburgh - the Stanley Berkeley on Rutland Place shortly as the casino site in Eros/Elite nightclub become operational.

But Grosvenor Casinos, was met with further disappointments because of they bid to turn the Palais de Danse into a world class casino was not accepted and turned down for a second time in just three months, less than a week after it receive a planning permission.

Kevin de Haan, QC representative of Stanley, because of the constraints Stanley Berkeley faces, it is not possible to build a world class century casino.

The casino that will rise will be the largest casino ever built in the city. The casino would house the newest state of the art facilities in cosy surroundings with a lounge bar and ample parking space.

The casino would boast sixteen tables for games, more than five than the Stanley Berkeley and 8 roulette tables. According to Mr. Haan, the only way to move forward is to transfer the casino business to another premise.

The Grosvenor Casinos had ask the board to overture its decision in rejecting the application for the Palais site to be sheriff and to refer the application again back to the board again for reconsideration.

Gerald Durier, representative of Grosvenor, said that they are planning better facilities than any casino would offer.

Meanwhile, Councillor Jim Lowrie, said that that they should encourage a friendly business competition in order to raise the profile of the city. But the Grosvenor Casinos' application was rejected by the councillors vote of seven votes against five votes. And after the approval of Stanley Circus casino bid, Councillor Gordon Mackenzie explained that they have to turn down the additional license because they believe that there was no increase in demand for such establishment.

The city now houses four casinos and Stanley casino is currently running the three major casinos in the city.

Aside from the Stanley Berkeley, the company also runs Stanley Edinburgh on York Place and Stanley Cascades in Leith. Gala Maybury, is the only other casino in the city which is 5 miles away from the centre in South Maybury Road.

Grosvenor Casinos will appeal the decision.
