Student Wins 150,000 Euro in Poker Contest

A student from Mallow, CoCork, that studies for a Business Degree, scooped 150,000 Euro during last week - the chief prize at a €1,000 freeze-out three-day poker contest in Dublin. Kieran Walsh from Ironmines, UCC student of Mallow, was the celebrity player at the opening Irish-Poker-Championships at City-West-Hotel in Dublin which fascinated players from Ireland and Britain.

A full amount of 500 players joined the event, which put out a 500,000 Euro prize jackpot. The buy-in for the competition was 1,000 Euro. The closing table showdown will be transmit on January 27 on the RTÉ channel.

Pro players who participated in the occasion, counting WSOP 2005 Main Event final table winner Andrew Black, members of the Hendon Mob, and Roy “The Boy” Brindley.
